SJK (T) Bestari Jaya is located in the small town of Batang Berjuntai which is about a 45 minute drive from Kuala Lumpur. This small but cozy school has a host of 48 teachers to a total
of 895 students. “Jasmani Rohani Emosi Intelek” is the
school’s vision for a better tomorrow.

Sports Achievements

Athletics is a sport that is of most interest to the students in this
school. Being the under-12 district champions in 2008 for both
the 200 meters run as well as the Cross Country
(Merentas Desa), these students just can’t get enough of
sports.
Academic Achievements

With students coming from humble backgrounds, academically this school is fairing well when compared to other Tamil schools within Selangor. Teachers are proud of students’ achievements in UPSR for the year 2008 as they have noticed steady improvements when compared to previous years.

School’s Background

It’s yet another story of skilful youngsters without a platform to practice. Students do not have the proper arena to enjoy sports on a daily basis. Their sole area to enjoy sports is the unleveled ground that plays host to football, netball, athletics practice and many more. Yet, the athletes and cross country champions are determined to practice even under such partial conditions.

As Guru Penolong Kanan Ko-Kurikulam, Puan Mehar-Banu
states, “We don’t even have a proper field for the 200 meter
track. All students have to adjust and practice accordingly.
All of us teachers wish that there could be a better platform for these skillful students to practice their sport of choice.”

On a day-to-day basis, teachers experience the undying
passion amongst their students to excel in sports. So, they
do the best that they can to coach their students within the restricted budget.

Puan Mehar-Banu says that she feels that sports ingnites the
spirit to perform and to constantly achieve goals. And to
achieve these goals, students are motivated to do better
each time and to never give up even when facing tough competitors.

She adds, “The truth is, we have lots of students who are interested in athletics and have great potential to represent the state. So many students can do the long and high jump but
cannot practice it on this field. It’s truly heart-breaking. There is talent. They simply need a better field that will allow them to exercise their fullest potential and reap the many values gained through sports as well. ”
