The waist-hip ratio is a guide for the proportion of body fat stored around your waist & hip. According to health professionals, having an apple-shaped body (extra weight more concentrated around the stomach) is riskier (heart disease etc) for your health than having a pear-shaped body (extra weight around hips or thighs).

How to measure the waist
For men Measure at the navel   
For women
Measure midway between bottom of the ribs and top of the hip bone
How to measure the hip
For men Measure at the tip of hip bone     
For women
Measure widest point between hips and buttocks
NOTE: While the Waist-Hip ratio is an indicator of abdominal obesity, it is not a diagnostic tool. Consult your family doctor or nutritionist for more information.
