Responsibly Sourced and Crafted
From December 2019 onwards, we have switched plastic straws to paper straws, starting with our MILO® UHT 125ml drink packs. These new paper straws are sustainable and meet Nestlé’s stringent product quality standards to ensure safety of our consumers. This initiative is estimated to eliminate over 200 million plastic straws per annum in the long run.
We are the first Food and Beverage Company in Malaysia to introduce paper straws in our drink packs starting with the MILO® UHT 125ml drink packs.
The new packs, which will be rolled out starting December 2019, will be able to reduce 40 million plastic straw usage per year. With more of our products transitioning, we aim to eliminate 200 million plastic straw usage per annum in the long run.
65% of Nestlé Malaysia’s total plastic packaging are currently designed for recycling
We are committed to ensure that our transition do not result in new deforestation nor is it sourced from irresponsible suppliers.
Using paper based is just one of several actions we are taking as part of our broad set of solutions in order to reduce plastic packaging waste in a meaningful and sustainable way.
The straws on the MILO® UHT pack are made from paper and are safe for drinking use.
We source our paper from various suppliers around the world who comply with our stringent responsible sourcing guidelines and who supply FSC certified paper.
The entire MILO® UHT pack is recyclable after you finish drinking it. All you need to do is push in the paper straw when you’re done and do these 3 simple steps:
Step 1 – Push the straw in
Step 2 – Flip the sides of the pack up
Step 3 – Flap the bottom of the pack
Step 4 – Flatten the pack, and put it into the nearest paper recycling bin!
The plastic wrapper is used to ensure the paper straws are protected from moisture and contamination, and are safe to be used when drinking.
Rest assured that the material used for the plastic wrapper, like the rest of the MILO® UHT pack, are fully recyclable.
